2016-2017 Environmental Testing
We have all of the preliminary water test results back for 177 locations tested for lead and copper.
Results of preliminary testing shows 3 fixtures at the High School high in lead, 1 fixture at the High School high in copper. Results also show a number of shower heads at both the High School and Middle School that tested high in lead. There were no issues found at Centennial.
The following outlines in more detail the results of the preliminary testing and the steps being taken to address the high lead and copper results.

Preliminary Results
Scio Middle School
Currently, we have 7 showers that have come back high in lead. We believe that it is from lack of use. Because the showers are not intended to be used for drinking water, we will be removing the shower heads and aerating the lines and retesting before we start the mitigation process.
For Lead
1 shower head in the boys locker room .0252 mg/l, the action level is .20. All the shower heads in the girls locker room and coaches office .0248 to .0499 mg/l, acion level is .20.

Scio High School
Our preliminary testing found 3 fixtures and 8 showers at the high school that are high in lead. We believe that it is from lack of use. Because the showers are not intended to be used for drinking water, we will be removing the shower heads and aerating the lines and retesting before we start the mitigation process.
Because the boys locker room in the main building is past due for upgrades and all the plumbing is exposed, we will also be looking at redoing the plumbing in the locker room.
For Lead
The drinking fountain by the office:
- 1st test – .0217 mg/l, the action level is .20
- 2nd test at the sink shut off valve .0368 mg/l action level is .20
- Currently replacing the shut off water valves on the sink, then we will reinstall the faucet, aerate the line and retest. Since the faucet is not intended for drinking water, we will label the faucet not intended for drinking water until the levels return to normal.
One of the lab sinks in the Chemistry room:
- 1st test – .0411 mg/l, the action level is .20
- 2nd test – at the sink shut off valves .408, .0260
- Currently replacing the shut off water valves on the sink, then we will reinstall the faucet, aerate the line and retest. Since the faucet is not intended for drinking water, we will label the faucet not intended for drinking water until the levels return to normal.
One sink in the girls restroom in the vocational building:
- 1st test – .0207 mg/l, the action level is .20
- 2nd test – at the sink shut off valve, .121, .0260 mg/l, action level is .20
- Currently replacing the shut off water valves on the sink, then we will re install the faucet, aerate the line and retest. Since the facet is not intended for drinking water, we will label the faucet not intended for drinking water until the levels return to normal.
Two showers in the high school boys locker room in the main building:
- .0455, .0287 mg/l, action level is .20.
Three showers in the high school stadium boys locker room:
- .0334, .0268, .0251 mg/l, action level is .20.
Four showers in the high school stadium girls locker room:
- .0325, .0448, .0310, .0225 mg/l, action level is .20.
For Copper
The ice machine in the stadium:
- 1st test – 1.76 mg/l, action lebel is 1.3 mg/l
- 2nd test – .679 mg/l, action level is 1.3 mg/l
- We aerated the line, we will reinstall the ice machine and retest before use.
