Scio High School Awards Night

Posted: June 8, 2023

I wanted to take a moment to comment on last night’s 2023 Scio High School Awards. It was a night to remember for all that attended. Anytime we can celebrate the hard work of our students is awesome. The stands and mezzanine were overflowing with students, parents and community members beaming with pride.

The night started with the high school counselor Mr. Andy Campbell welcoming everyone and introducing the first of several presenters of financial scholarship awards to our seniors. Thirty-three scholarships were awarded to 20 students totaling $47,500.  In addition, individual students had other scholarship awards they received prior to the awards night ranging from $3,000 to $108,000.  Twenty students also applied for the Oregon Promise Grant. This grant provides each student to receive up to 90 community college credits free of cost. That equals a total of 1,800 FREE Trade or Community College Credits worth of $250,000.

-The Scio High School Class of 2023 earned a total of over $450,000 worth of scholarships/grants!

The class of 2023 has a lot to be proud of when it comes to their accomplishments. Here are some of the highlights in addition to their financial awards…

Finally the night wrapped up with the AVID student celebration. For anyone wanting to know the impact of AVID on the lives of our students, I highly recommend you attend a year end AVID celebration. The highlight of this portion of the night was when our graduating AVID seniors came to the podium to discuss how AVID has influenced their high school experience. To watch their emotion as they explained what their AVID family and instructor meant to them was inspirational. Then to watch their teacher try to get through his speech told me all I need to know about why investing in the AVID program is the right thing for our students!

Thank you Scio High School staff for your efforts to make this such a great year for our students. Thank you students for making our work so meaningful!
