Social Media Threat Challenge

Posted: December 16, 2021

Scio Students, Families and Community

In case you are not aware, there are posts on the social media platform, Tik Tok, referencing a challenge for December 17, 2021 – tomorrow.  The challenge asks for individuals to call in bomb, school shooting, or other threats of violence at schools across the US.  Linn County Sheriff as well as Oregon State Police are aware of this circulating challenge.  At this time, no threats have been received at any of our schools in Scio.
Out of an abundance of caution, Linn County Sheriff will be increasing their presence at our schools tomorrow.  Here is the message from Linn County Sheriff,
“Your Linn County Sheriff’s office is aware of the recent social media attention regarding threats to schools across the nation tomorrow.   Although there are no specific threats to our local schools, we will have extra deputies in the area to protect our community. “
Social Media is a powerful tool, often used to influence others, not always for the good.  We have seen some of its ramifications recently, even if the intent to harm was not there.  I also ask for your assistance.  If you know of any specific threats or witness any suspicious activity related to our schools, please contact law enforcement and school administration immediately.  If you see a threat online, please DO NOT REPOST IT.  School safety is our highest priority.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support of each student in the Scio School District.
